Why Oxford House?
There are many language schools in Barcelona. Why do our students choose to study with Oxford House?
Intensive summer Spanish courses

Why do an intensive Spanish course?

An intensive Spanish course is ideal for someone who needs to brush up on their Spanish skills, or who needs to improve quickly. It allows you to cover a lot of vocabulary and grammar in a short amount of time, and make the most of the time you spend in Spain.

Course description

In the mornings you’ll do four hours of language classes with our native teachers. In the afternoon we can then organise cultural visits and activities for you, if you wish. Our courses are dynamic, fun and interesting. The courses cover vocabulary and grammar, which are appropriate for the level of the students. Our courses focus on being able to communicate effectively in a Spanish-speaking environment.

Why Oxford House?

We have been working in the sector for over ten years. Many of our students return year after year because they are so satisfied with the courses they receive at Oxford House; our language courses are often filled to capacity.

Barcelona

Barcelona is a port city which can be enjoyed at any time of the year, but it comes alive in summer, as people pour out onto the streets to enjoy the nice weather, soak up the rays on the beach or in one of the many plazas. There are activities going on in the city throughout the summer, these include: open-air cinema; the Greek festival; the local festivals in the neighbourhoods of Grącia and Sants with street parties and decorations; September sees the city’s main festival – la Mercč, with countless activities going on the week of the festival.

Barcelona itself is fantastic, but it's also a great base for heading off to other nearby destinations: the Pyrenees are just two hours away, where you can enjoy great walking, climbing, and other outdoor pursuits; the Costa Brava, which starts an hour north of Barcelona and stretches right up to the French border, has beautiful coves, crystal-clear water and opportunities for water sports like snorkelling, diving, as well as loads of camp grounds.

What about Catalan?

Like many places in the world, Barcelona is a bilingual city, with two official languages. Everyone in Barcelona speaks and understands Spanish without any problem. You can easily do everything you need in Spanish and have no need to learn Catalan. People live in Barcelona for many years without ever needing to learn Catalan. Being a port city most people are extremely open-minded and are always ready to help people out with Spanish. All signs are in both languages and you can always ask for the information in Spanish. Outside of Barcelona, especially inland Catalonia, you’ll hear more Catalan spoken, but by no means should Catalan be a deterrent to someone wanting to study Spanish in Barcelona. Testament to that is that number of students who arrive each year to the city to learn Spanish.
